Modern interpretation of the concept of «SHOT»
Abstract:
The article substantiates the need to revise the concept of “shot”, which is widely used in forensic ballistics and everyday consciousness. It has been proved, that the old postulates that have been in force in relation to it for a long time, no longer correspond to reality and require a radical revision. Based on specific examples from the inventive and Production practices of various countries, long-term claims about the lead base of the shot and its spherical shape have been critically analyzed. It has been shown, that at present it is made not only from lead and alloys based on it, but also from other materials, including composite materials, that do not have a harmful effect on the environment. Presented industrial samples of shot having a different geometric shape rather than a round one. Among them, specially the shots that is cubic (with smoothed corners) and cylindrical (with hemispherical ends) in shape are noted, as well as with a girdling cutting belt. As a result, a new interpretation of the concept of “shot” is proposed, which adequately responds to the problems of criminalistics and the challenges of the time.
